AFPAG Hosts First-Ever Mini Conference in Thomasville, GA 
The Adoptive and Foster Parent Association of Georgia (AFPAG) celebrated a milestone with the very first AFPAG Mini Conference, hosted by Dr. Bettie Stafford at Victory Fellowship Church in Thomasville, GA. Foster parents from counties across the state gathered for a day filled with learning, connection, and community.
Participants earned six hours of training credit, with an engaging lineup of expert-led presentations, including:
- EPAC Process – Heather Coggins & Ashley Gooddine
- Play Therapy – Dr. Clarissa Alderman, Family Insights, Valdosta, GA
- Autism – Dr. Montserrat Graves, South Georgia Autism Center, Thomasville, GA
- Synthetic Drugs in the Community – Assistant Commander Keith Newman, Thomas County Sheriff’s Department.
- Behavioral Health Services Overview – Todd Jones, Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities
- The Georgia Center for Resources and Support (GACRS) – Kathy Burks, Resource Advisor
- Hair & Skin Care Discussion & Demonstrations – Shata Parsons, Southern Regional Cosmetology Director, Thomasville, GA
- Car Seat Safety – Tamia Haggins & Gisell Montelongo, Thomas County Health Department
- Foster Parent Bill of Rights – Dr. Bettie Stafford
While parents engaged in training, children enjoyed an exciting game truck, ensuring a fun day for the entire family.
Foster parents were also treated to a free catered lunch, featuring a delicious spread of Parmesan crusted chicken, pineapple glazed ham, mushroom rice, broccoli casserole, green beans and red potatoes, peach cobbler, banana pudding, and sweet tea.
The conference was even featured on local television stations, helping to shine a spotlight on the importance of supporting foster and adoptive families across Georgia.
Dr. Stafford shared, “This conference was designed not only to educate, but to create a sense of community and appreciation for our foster parents. We look forward to making this an annual tradition.”
